On Monday evening, a steady Milanese April drizzle stopped in time for a party to celebrate the spring 2012 design issue of T and the Milan Furniture Fair. The slightly soggy grass of the Bulgari Hotel’s garden looked festive nonetheless — thanks to the designers Migliore + Servetto‘s installation of illuminated globes — and the crowd that jammed into the hotel’s bar and terrace didn’t let the gray skies spoil the mood. Inside the bar, the artist Doug Aitken’s video “Acid Modernism” (about his house in Venice, Calif., which is the issue’s cover story) played while a gold Mylar “T” by ConfettiSystem shimmered under a spotlight. Among the guests were the Vionnet chairman, Matteo Marzotto, and its designers (and twin sisters) Barbara and Lucia Croce; the German design star Konstantin Grcic; the fashion designer Neil Barrett; the Dutch product designers Kiki van Eijk and Joost van Bleiswijk; the British designer and stylist Faye Toogood; and the Italian London-based designer Martino Gamper. And as in years past, the evening offered a convivial start to an action-packed week.
